Monise Valente da Silva is a Ph.D. candidate in Public and Urban Policy at The New School for Public Engagement. Her research engages with embodied experiences -- including those of the researcher -- as "bodies of knowledge" in the policy field.
By exploring the intersection of anthropology, performance studies, social movement theories, and policy studies, Monise’s work aims to understand how embodied strategies of social resistance can communicate marginalized claims, enact alternative social realities, and ultimately influence policy agendas and practices. Building on kinesthetic ethnography, thick participation, and experimental somatic and movement investigations, her work investigates embodied strategies of protest and resistance in social movements from Global South cities.
