The Absent/Present Bodies of Objective Knowledge, Subjective Knowing and Avid Eating: An Interference in Infra-Theory

Annemarie Mol is Professor of Anthropology of the Body at the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research of the University of Amsterdam.

A self-avowed "empirical philosopher," her work combines the ethnographic study of practices with the task of shifting our theoretical repertoires. She is the author of the enormously influential The Body Multiple (Duke, 2002) and The Logic of Care (Routledge, 2008), and the editor of Differences in Medicine (with Marc Berg; Duke, 1998), Complexities (with John Law; Duke, 2002), and Care in Practice (with Ingunn Moser and Jeanette Pols; Transcript, 2010). Her many articles focus on caring bodies, traveling technologies, topological figures, feminist ways of writing, fluid theorizing, and lekker food.

A recent recipient of the prestigious Spinoza Prize of the Netherlands Organization of Research and of an ERC Advanced Grant, Professor Mol is currently working with an international interdisciplinary team on questions to do with eating in  practice and theory.
